If we are what we eat, then what we eat tells a story. In 1982 every high street in the land boasted a Wimpy burger bar. A quarter of a century on, the Wimpy is replaced by a Fair Trade coffee shop, and a Saturday farmers’ market. Britain’s gastronomic revolution has been profound and Jamie, Gordon, Hugh have become household names. Food programmes have become much more than cooking demonstrations – our eating habits top political agendas: Jamie’s School Dinners and Hugh’s Chicken Run effect positive change. But the revolution is not yet complete and Channel 4 continues to raise consciousness about how and where our food comes from and how it is produced, knowing this affects not only our health but the environment, local producers and communities.
